Currently, there is an academic boycott at Goldsmiths where ATOL is produced (https://www.ucu.org.uk/boycottGoldsmiths). Academic boycott is a strategy of industrial action taken by the union (UCU), designed to sanction the university and to draw attention to the disastrous choices and actions that the Senior Management Team (SMT) have taken in making up to 46 staff redundant. The academic boycott primarily affects events organised by the university and its research partnerships and asks for solidarity from the global academic community to boycott the institution until management agrees to negotiate towards the union’s demands. Supporters of the boycott are asked to suspend writing for any academic journal which is edited at or produced by Goldsmiths. As editors of ATOL, we understand ourselves to be amongst those who write, and support writers, of an academic journal which is published online by Goldsmiths. For this reason, as supporters of the boycott, we regret to announce that we will not be publishing new issues of ATOL until further notice. The editorial board will be continuously in dialogue with the UCU to review the situation. We ask that any writers considering submitting get in touch with the editorial team.
