“In eigener Sache” (Speaking for Ourselves): Magazines, GDR, October 1989 – June 1990

Abstract

The project draws on a selection of nature and special interest magazines from the GDR from October 1989 till October 1990. It comprises all issues of each publication in which the process of political transformation within the country was discussed in relation to the subject matter of the magazine in the form of editorials, statements, readers’ letters, etc. This contribution to the
LEA Red Art Issue is a new iteration of the project made specifically for the format of a printed magazine. The original version of the project was developed for east people power, Artist Interventions in Public Space, October 6 - October 12, 2012, KunstDoc, Leipzig, Germany, and consisted of 7 posters in public space and a 60-page textbook that was made available in a local community centre.
